Project 30

2013-02-02 15.22.46

The what, the how, the when, the who and the why. All here in hairy little details.

Challenge: 30 books by 11:59pm December 31, 2014*

Contender: A somewhat bruised, but still determined budding bookworm

Why?:

One need not a good reason to read, but I have one nonetheless.

This project originally started in the countryside of Japan at the start of 2013. I was there as an assistant English teacher for one year, and well, a town of 3000 isn’t exactly known for its exciting nightly activities, bright lights and big parties. Add to the fact that my Japanese couldn’t even carry a one-minute conversation with a toddler, and you had someone with a lot of time on their hands. However, since last summer, I’ve regained my status as a poor, broke student, this time of the Masters degree. I don’t want to name names, but regaining a foothold in the chaotic, busy life of a student was more difficult that I suspected. So since my return to student life, I’ve been bogged down by “return-to-school shock syndrome” (namely, procrastination to the Nth degree) as well as a flood of assignments and research, which is why I failed to obtain the goal of 30 books in 2013.

However! Another new year has come, another chance to redeem myself. So rewind the clocks, keep the books dusted, get the bookmarks ready, and let’s begin again!
